Under sunny skies, over 10,000 people attended Lancaster Airport Community Days 2011 on August 20th and 21st. Both days were filled with static displays of vintage and modern military and civilian aircraft, a World War II encampment, local business and organization displays, helicopter rides, plus great food and fun for the entire family. Saturday's crowd enjoyed air show performances by Heavy Metal Jet Team, the only civilian jet team in the United States, the United States Air Force A-10 East Coast Demonstration Team plus the aerial acrobatics of Kevin Russo, Kendal Simpson and Jerry Wells.
The Lancaster Airport Authority would like to thank Platinum partners Keller Brothers Ford--Dodge--Kabota, Avis-Rent-Car and the Lancaster Barnstormers, Silver partners Russell, Krafft and Gruber and Delta Airport Consultants, as well as Fulton Bank, Cape Air Airlines, Fairfield Inn—Lancaster, H.K. Plans are currently underway to distribute the parking fees, collected during the weekend, to the Lancaster-based Civil Air Patrol—Jesse Jones Composite Squadron 304, local fire police, and the Community Days Canteen, which provided both food and beverages to event volunteers and performers.
